BRAINY Blob
I’ve been flirting with the idea of making an AMOEBA CARD for the Green Wisdom Deck. This early creature is what biologists call a “proto-animal,” and somehow I felt intuitively important to include it. As synchronicity would have it, I open the NY Times “Science” section today and there’s a headline that says, “Slime Mold Proves To Be a Brainy Blob.” Let’s hear it for the amoeba!
The first paragraph of the article is all you need to know. “Researchers in Japan have shown that a slime mold can design a network that is as efficient as one developed by humans over many years: the Tokyo rail system. Furthermore, the slime mold can build its network in a day.”
Oh, our human arrogance.
No ReviewsThe US Oracle
Question asked by my friend Ted with whom we share coffee in the AM.
WHAT’S UP WITH OUR POLITICAL SYSTEM? Nothing progressive like health care seems to get done.
My response as a political scientist is that the U.S. political system is broken and because of mistrust. When trust in any relationship, partnership, friendship is broken, the connection is severed and what we call the body politic in governance is rendered dysfunctional. As a result, legislation like health care gets bogged down.
THE GREEN MAN’S RESPONSE IS NATURE’S STRATEGIES FOR HEALING A BROKEN GOVERNMENT. I asked my Green Man “mythic mentor” about it and this is what he said: “In nature, there’s basically four responses: fight, flight, adapt, pray and wait for a mutation.”
Given that I see distrust as a bigger and ultimately deeper issue than health insurance, fighting would only exacerbate disrule. Running away is denial and ultimately that gets you nowhere, unless some mutative miracle happens (or perhaps like a “9/11″ crisis of crippling disease that plagues millions and millions and forces a viable health plan). Sustainability results from the law of “natural selection,” which is the ability to communicate, adapt and create community (workable consensus).
If I were Obama and followed the adaptive way, reach out to the conservatives, independents, liberals, interest groups and the PUBLIC to get policies that can be agreed upon, regardless of ideologies. Make something work.
Now, that is sweet music to the ears of Green Man. As he says, “Earth’s nature, which has sustained itself for eons and eons, inspite of frictions and extinctions, searches for what works, no less, no more, and that requires agreement, co-creation, collaboration and continuous adjustments. And it takes time through step-by-step experimentation.
It’s “survival of the most cooperative.”
No ReviewsSUCCESS IS AN INSIDE JOB
We can know all the techniques and right steps to take to be successful in the world but unless the person is prepared and passionate, it does not make much difference. In the atomic world, atoms can dance and dance around, but until they are ready to commit, the dancing goes on. When the sub-atomic, inner elements in the atom are ready, change happens in a one quadrillionth of a second. It’s an “overnite success,” but only after a lifetime of getting ready.
The most important thing you can do to get launched is to work on yourself. Build confidence, delete and dismiss inner and outer detractors, and cultivate your magic and talent. Success from the inside out is true, but even all that may be on the back burner because sometimes it simply takes time, a natural, organic maturing that just happens. No wine before it’s time. In the mean time, grow yourself.
No ReviewsWHAT IF…
Einstein got his extraordinary insights by doing “thought experiments,” such as asking, “what if…” So, what if “creation is the new consumption?” I ask this because our economy is troubled by dependence upon consumption rather than on innovation, invention, ingenuity. As an experiment, I try to create something instead of going out and buying something. The results… I’ve been way more creative, saved money, and ultimately gain financially and more importantly, spiritually. (Spirit – life force – is by definition, innately creative, so to be spiritual and alive, create).
The drive to buy comes from a desire to have something new and different that feeds the physical senses. Instead, feed the life force – the creative spirit, the instinct of apotheosis to fulfill your potential and realize your destiny. Another pair of shoes simply does not compare to a finely crafted piece of writing. Renting a movie feeds the voyeur but not the voyager. The fulfillment level of your creativity is far greater than just another something or just another show that you really don’t need and will probably turn up in a throwout pile sooner or later. Break the consumer addiction, express your natural genius, and create yourself.
“Create it, Don’t buy it.”
1 ReviewIT’S ALL ABOUT NOTHING
I was writing up one of my Green Wisdom Cards, it’s a blank card called “Nothing.” As I began to write, a song was playing on an internet radio station and the first words I heard were… “nothing is real.” Synchronicity is one finely tuned instrument. Anyway, WHO SANG THIS SONG? I don’t know. If you know, email me and win a prize – a FREE READING with me.
